How to Take a Screenshot on a Kindle Fire

Taking a screenshot on a Kindle Fire is a really cool little technique with a lot of applications! 

Taking screenshots on the Kindle Fire HD has never been easier, and I’ll teach you how in this brief video! Please read all of my additional notes for critical tips and information that you should be aware of when shooting tablet photos.

Update for the year 2021 

This article was written a few years ago, and Amazon has made it easier than ever before to take a screenshot on newer Fire tablets! 

You won’t have to hold down the power and volume buttons at the same time any more. All you have to do now is switch your device on and then press and hold the power button. 

You’ll have three choices:

You’ll hear a shutter click if you tap screenshot. A little window will appear in a few moments, giving you the choice to view, share, modify, or delete your screenshot.

Taking a Screenshot of a Kindle Fire on Older Devices 

For the most part, you can take a screenshot from anywhere on your Kindle Fire; simply navigate to where you want to take a screenshot and then press and hold these two buttons at the same time: 

Volume Down + Power 
These two buttons are positioned on the right side of your tablet while in landscape mode with the camera at the top. 

You’ll hear a shutter clicking sound (unless your volume is all the way down) and see a quick image of the snapshot you just took before it disappears from the screen if you push both the power and volume down keys at the same time (for roughly a second).

Where Should You Look for Your Screenshots? 

So, you’ve snapped a few pictures with your Kindle Fire. So, what’s next? First, you’ll need to figure out where the pictures are – they’re right on your Kindle Fire! 

All you have to do is go to the ‘Photos’ folder on your home screen.

Here you will find all your photos and screenshots. This is my photos folder – and you can see the screenshot I took to use on this page (above).

From Your Personal Computer 

You can also use your USB cable to connect to your computer and access them from there. 

After you’ve connected the cable, go to your Fire’s ‘Settings’ and select ‘Connected Devices.’

Tap ‘USB’.

Now go to your computer, locate your Fire device and double click ‘Internal Shared Storage’.

Locate the ‘Pictures’ folder and double click to open.

Now you’ll see your ‘Screenshots’ folder. Double click to open.

And here you’ll find all your screenshots, ready to open and use as you wish.

Just Say No to Vids

One more thing to be aware of, is that you won’t be able to take screenshots of videos on your Kindle Fire. Amazon has blocked this feature and all you’ll get is a black screen that looks just like this:
